Our third hiking trip was the longest and most difficult. We chose the highest mountain of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy mountains, Lysá hora, which is 1323m high. Our trip was 16 km long, we started in Ostravice and went to Malenovice. We were really lucky, the weather was excellent. Even if it was a bit cold and down in the towns foggy, up the hill we were above the clouds and in the sun. The views were spectacular. Mountains in the clouds looked like small islands in the sea. Children were shooting the videoreport, taking a lot of pictures and learning about all things connected with this place. They already know about a writer and poet Petr Bezruč, after whom a cottage on the top and a hotel down the hill are named, they also learned about a scout memorial Ivančena and they know where to find the view of Slovak…

On the 23rd September 2021 we finally managed to go hiking for the second time. This time we went through the Vsetín hills to the Lake Cáb with a group of 11 pupils. As usually, they worked on a worksheet on their way and shot a videoreport. We are going to edit our videos in later autumn and in winter. We were lucky to meet a salamander, which belongs to endangered species! On our way, we couldn´t miss hills Búřov and Santov with beautiful views of Wallachian countryside. The weather wasn´t ideal, in the morning it was a bit foggy and really cold, but in the afternoon the sun made us warm again. The autumn si simply here! Hana Břoušková, Czech Republic

We have just finished our first project year and we have been curious how children liked it. Here are results of our final questionnaires:

Last Thursday 17th June, we had a meeting to thank our students and their families for participating in our Erasmus program. Despite the difficult times we are going through, they have been working with great enthusiasm and dedication. They are willing to go on working in our project and doing all the activities which have not been possible to do this year. We gathered in the school courtyard to give them a certification and some clothes (cap and jacket) with the project logos. There was a representation of all the school sections at the meeting (teachers, headmistress, administration…) and we all agreed that joining the project has been a wonderful experience as regards its main topic and also, getting to know students and colleagues from the other countries we are working on with. Finally, we would like to say that we are looking forward to the years to come and…

After long sitting at the computers during distance learning due to covid-19 pandemic, we were finally able to go hiking. Our first trip was on the 11th June 2021 and lead us to the Ondřejník massif it´s second highest point Ondřejník (889 m).

Our task on the trip was to shoot a videoreport that will be a part of our tourist guide. Each child had to learn their part in advance and because everybody did so, everything went very well. Children will edit the video after summer holidays – our school bought the Pinnacle Studio licence.

Czechia, Latvia and Spain organized the final videoconference on Friday 28th May 2021. It was the „imaginary dot“ after this school year where children tested their knowledge of the stuff dealt with in this school year. We met online in Zoom 12 o´clock sharp (1 PM Latvian time), Czech and Spanish kids at school (finally!) and Latvian kids at home. We started with three kahoot games based on the vocabulary from trip 1 and 2. Each country prepared one game. Judging by children´s reactions, their had a lot of fun! Before saying goodbye and happy holidays (which start in a few days in Latvia), each child informed about their holiday plans. Even if we faced some technical problems and talking in masks was difficult, we enjoyed the videocall and I hope everybody is eager to meet after holidays again. Hana Břoušková.

Hello everybody, we are already back at school, distance learning is over! We can finally meet „live“ in the classroom. Our first live lesson was in the computer room where we prepared for the coming videoconference with Spain and Latvia. Children were doing online exercises, practising vocabulary for the videocall games and preparing their speech about holiday plans. I also collected their pictures painted during the lockdown. Have a look in the photogallery! If you want to, you try out our games! Hana Břoušková. Latvian words Spanish words Czech words MIX – what is it? Rigas Valda AVotina pamatskola is involved in Erasmus project “Hiking – Explore And Learn ”.
This was interesting and hard time because of the epidemological reasons. Most of the school year we all were on distance learning, we did not have chances to go hike. We work theoretically and had videoconferences in order to meet our project partners and friends.
But there came beautiful and flowerfull spring, and everyone had hunger to go out.
So our school according to the project aims suggested to have hiking day.
We could not to hike all together, but we could go hike on all together one day.

We have a new noticeboard where we will inform the public about our project. It is standing in the arcade of the Castle of Žerotín and it will „rotate“ among various places, for example our town hall etc. The noticeboard was made by our colleague Lukáš Navrátil.

The “covid time“ does allow us to meet our project partners live. We should have visited the Spanish school in March for learning activities, but instead most of us are locked at home on distance learning. However, we decided to face the situation as we can and do at least something!

On Friday 26th March we met with our partners online in a Zoom videocall. Spanish pupils were at school, so we could at least see their classroom. Czech and Latvian kids are still at home on distance learning, so they joined the meeting individually.
